After years of fan speculation, The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal reveals whether or not he would be interested in an MCU role going forward.
Pedro Pascal has finally revealed whether he would want to take a Marvel Cinematic Universe role, if Marvel Studios comes knocking. Pascal first came into prominence after appearing in Game of Thrones as the short-lived Dornishman Oberyn Martell. The swagger and arrogance he brought to the role became the turning point he needed, and he quickly began featuring in starring roles in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, The Mandalorian, Wonder Woman 1984, and the upcoming The Last of Us. Pascal has been thrust directly into the public eye, and he has been excelling at every step.
Yet, while Pascal has starred in several action projects, he has yet to appear in the MCU, despite having Disney connections through The Mandalorian. While it would be easy to assume that Pascal simply isn't interested in a major role within one of Marvel's franchises, the truth is anything but, as The Mandalorian success exceeded Pascal's wildest expectations, and he's interested in seeing more of it. In an interview with WIRED, Pascal was asked about whether he would want to play a role in the MCU, and the actor made it clear that he would love to get the call from Marvel Studios. Check out his quote below:
I do want that. I want to be in movies.
Who Could Pedro Pascal Play In The MCU?
For Pascal, the only major hurdle would be fitting the MCU into his busy schedule and finding the perfect character for him to embody. Much like Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect Iron Man, Pascal needs to find his own niche. With that in mind, it would be easy to mark him down as Richard Rider (Nova), given that Pascal prefers wearing a helmet on The Mandalorian, and Nova famously draws his power from a helmet. Pascal has already proven that he's a skilled enough actor to emote in spite of the presence of a helmet, which could be a challenge for non-experienced actors.
Yet funneling Pascal into the role of warriors-who-wear-a-helmet is a disservice to his skill. The charisma that he displayed as Oberyn shouldn't be disregarded and could easily come into play if Pascal is interested in picking up the role of Gambit in the MCU. A much less serious character than many of Pascal's other roles, Gambit still has an edge to him that could benefit from Pascal's portrayal. While Channing Tatum still wants to play Gambit after the character's solo movie was scrapped when Disney ended the Fox X-Men universe, Pascal could suit the role as well, if Marvel Studios prefers to go in a different direction.
Of course, Gambit would be a demanding role, given his importance to the wider Marvel universe as one of the more popular X-Men. If Pascal is interested in a smaller role that would give him more time to continue to star in such shows as The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, while also featuring in movies, he might be interested in Corsair, Cyclops' father. The swashbuckling space pirate who left behind his sons after assuming they were dead, Corsair is a lesser-known character who can still give Pascal appearances in movies, while also keeping with Pascal's trend of playing dads like Din Djarin, Oberyn, and Joel. Pascal already compared Joel to the Mandalorian, so he has some interest in sticking to that type. If he's interested in keeping close to fatherly roles in the MCU, Corsair might be his best choice.
