The award marks Farrell's second Golden Globe win and third nomination.
Colin Farrell is taking home his second Golden Globe for Best Actor in a musical or comedy film after securing the win for The Banshees of Inisherin.
Farrell, who previously won for 2008's In Bruges, found success yet again with director Martin McDonagh, who was behind both films—and the Irish actor wasted no time thanking him in his acceptance speech.
"Martin McDonagh, I owe you so much, man," Farrell announced, recounting how the director "changed the trajectory" of his life and joking that he's begrudgingly grateful for it.
"Fourteen years ago, you put me in work with Brandan Gleeson, my dance partner, and you changed the trajectory of my life forever in ways that I, begrudgingly, will be grateful to you for the rest of my days."
The Banshees of Inisherin sees Farrell and Gleeson reunite on the screen, playing lifelong friends Pádraic Súilleabháin and Colm Doherty, whose friendship is awkwardly, painfully falling apart.
"I never expect films to work or to find an audience, so when they do, it's shocking to me," the actor continued.
The film certainly found its audience—The Banshees of Inisherin premiered to a rare, "perfectly fresh" rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the tragicomedy has been generating award-season buzz since its release—a phenomenon that Farrell finds exciting, if not a bit scary.
"So I'm horrified by what's happened here on Banshees over the last couple of months in a thrilling kind of way."
